There are various estimations of the date of the temple. As per the traditional Hindu cycle of time, the temple was constructed in the Dwapara Yuga, which is the third out of four great eras, described in the Hindu scriptures. The scholars estimate that the temple was built around the 8th century AD, since the temple is considered the birthplace of the third Alwar saint who was born in the year 713 AD. The temple is said to have been relocated to the present location from its original place during the 16th century.
