Procession

default

The processions of the deities are taken around the temple on various occasions at weekly, monthly and yearly frequencies. Every Friday the procession of goddess Mayuravalli Tayyar is taken out. During the weekly and monthly festivals, the Utsava Murti, or the small idol of the deity, is taken out in a palanquin (Palki). During the yearly and major festivals the procession is taken out in the temple vehicle (Vahana). The procession goes around the temple and involves the local community. Apart from this, temple processions are taken out on the days of the Nakshatra associated with the different deities, such as on the days of the Ardra, Mula, or the Shravana Nakshatras or on the Nakshatra  associated with the Alwar saints.
