Etiquette

As in all Hindu temples, entering this temple in a vehicle or with footwear is considered improper. Before entering the temple, the devotee must prostrate before the shrine and then go around it in the customary circumambulation or Pradakshina, keeping the shrine to the right. While entering the shrine, men must not wear their sacred cord the wrong way viz. hanging by the right shoulder, hanging by the neck or wound around the ear. They must wear proper clothes and not wear a headgear or carry any weapon in their hands. Devotees cannot eat, play or sleep within the temple.

Since the temple proper starts from the Garuda Stambha or the Garuda Pillar, which is inside the outer gate, the prostration or the Shastanga Namaskar should be done outside this Stambha. If this is done inside this Stambha then it is incomplete as all the gods will not receive it, since Garuda will be left out.
