Aarti

default

The deity is worshiped four times a day in the Brihadeeswarar Temple.

·         The Morning Pooja, also called as Kala Sandhi, takes place at 8:30 A.M.

·         Utchi Kalam, or the mid noon Pooja, happens at noon.

·         The evening arati and Pooja, also called Sayaratchai, is at 5:30 P.M.

·         The night pooja or the Artha Jamam takes place at 8:30 P.M.

Each pooja consists of three steps, which are the decoration of the deity (alangaram), the offering of food (neivethanam) and the waving of lamps (deepa aradanai). The pooja timings are altered during festivals.

Besides the daily Pooja there are other weekly, monthly and fortnightly poojas that are held here.
