As in all Hindu temples, the Brihadisvara temple too has certain rules for visitors and devotees. Some of these are the following:

·         Shoes are not allowed inside the temple. They are supposed to be removed at the first gate called the Keralatakan gopuram. Here temple socks are available which the devotees can wear inside the temple.

·         Devotees and visitors are required to dress appropriately.

·         Photography is restricted to the outer areas of the shrines, and is strictly prohibited inside the sanctums.
