History

The first structure of the temple was built in 1801 by a professional contractor, Late Mr. Laxman Vithu Patil. The finances and instructions for the construction were given by Late Mrs. Deubai Patil. The new temple was built by architect Shri. Sharad Athale of SK Athale & Associates, who made an extensive survey of various temples in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu to come up with a design for the new structure. However, considering the hot and humid climatic conditions of Mumbai, the heavy monsoon period for nearly 4 months and the proximity of the temple to the sea, the architects decided to model the temple on a Shiva Temple at Ambernath.
During the renovation, due care and precautions were taken to preserve the sanctity and purity of the temple and the idol. The crown of the temple was brought down carefully in a very systematic manner and was decorated and kept in the hall for the public to view it.
