The first structure of the temple was built by Bhide, who had discovered the idol here. He made a temporary structure which had a roof made of grass. Very soon the fame of the temple spread and various kingdoms started making additions to its structure. One of the cabinet ministers of the Maratha King, Chhatrapti Shivaji Maharaj, who was named Shri. Annaji Datto visited this shrine and ordered the renovation of the temple during which the grass roof was replaced by a permanent one. Next step an auditorium was constructed by Sardar Govindrap Bundele from the court of the Peshwa. Later, the Kolhapur Sansthan Secretary, Vasudeorao Barve, installed the gold plated dome-summit. Nanasaheb Peshwa arranged for the lamp or the Nandadeep to be continuously lit. Ramabai Peshwa made arrangements for the construction of a permanent hard-stone construction for the pilgrims.
