Historical Timeline: The foundation stone was laid on 24 November 1594 but the church was completed and consecrated by archbishop Alexion de Menezes nearly a decade later, in 1605.

Madgaon and Vasco da Gama are the two nearest railway stations to Panaji. It is a major halting point for Konkan trains and an origin for many trains that go to Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai.
