Festivals

Goa, a state with nearly 400 churches to be proud of, is absolutely a perfect destination to celebrate Christmas. Nothing can beat the experience of attending a Midnight Mass in the Basilica of Bom Jesus with hymns in the air and carols all around. People bask in the festivities and enjoy Christmas to the brim.
The month of December is the occasion of yet another important religious ceremony, called The Feast of St. Francis Xavier (also called Goinchea Saibache Fest). It is held on 3rd December following nine days of prayer called Novena. Being hailed as one of the biggest Christian festivals in Goa, more precisely of Basilica of Bom Jesus, it commemorates the burial day of St. Francis Xavier. The body enshrined in a silver casket in the Basilica of Bom Jesus is exposed to all on that day, indeed a perfect occasion to get blessed. This happens once in a decade and the next exposition is scheduled for 2024.
