Festivals

The biggest festival in Bodh Gaya is Buddha Jayanti which is held on a full moon in the month of Vaishakh (April-May). This festival celebrates the birth of Lord Buddha. Other festivals in Bodh Gaya include the annual Buddha Mahotsava, which is a three-day celebration filled with cultural and religious activities. The Kagyu Monlam Chenmo and Nyingma Monlam Chenmo prayer festivals are held around January-February every year for world peace. A special puja is also conducted on all full moon days. During the Kalachakra festival a number of meditation, prayers, chants, and vows are undertaken.
