Ceremonies

default

One of the main ceremonies held at this temple is the chanting of Buddha’s teachings by the Buddhist monks under the sacred Bodhi tree. Thousands of monks and devotees across the world visit the Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya for attending the International Tripitaka Chanting (a Buddhist ritual). The messages of Buddha in the Tripitakas are mentioned in the Sutra Vinaya Abhidhamma. These prayers and chantings are held for the world peace and progress. During the chanting ceremony, a sand mandala is prepared by the monks in fourteen different colours. After that, people are given the permission to see the sand mandala. At the end of the ceremony, the sand mandala is undone in order to show the temporariness of things. The monks are said to release the positive energy of the mandala through a ritual to the whole world.
