Deity

The deity of the temple is Lord Buddha. At present a ten feet tall Shakyamuni Buddha statue, surrounded by Shariputra and Mangalputra, sits upwards at the back of the hall. On the two sides of the statue there are one thousand small buddha statues, which are made of clay and painted with gold colour. In front of the statue there is a decorated holy throne of the Gyalwa Karmapa. Also there are other thrones of his regents and other high dignitaries. On either side of the main shrine there are halls where a complete set of the religious texts of the Kangyur and Tengyur are kept. The Kangyur is a collection of the Buddha's teachings, which have been translated from Sanskrit into Tibetan. The Tengyur, is a collection of Tibetan translations of early Indian commentaries on the teachings of Buddha and has 225 volumes.
