Devotees have to cover their heads, along with their foreheads, while entering the Dargah. A person’s body and clothing should be clean and pure before he enters and performs rituals in the dargah. Clothes should not have pictures of any living thing printed or painted on it. Males should fold their long pants above the feet and should wear loose clothing and females should cover themselves properly from head to toe. During the prayers no one should speak or whisper to one another. Wuzu or the process of cleansing the parts of the body has to be compulsorily carried out before saying the Namaz. The steps of wuzu include washing of the hands, mouth, nostrils, arms, head and feet with water. Only after this, can one enter the shrine to offer prayers or perform rituals.
There is a custom here to visit Amir Khusro’s tomb before visiting Hazrat Nizamuddin’s tomb. Announcements regarding this are made over the microphone to guide the devotees.
