Urs of Amir Khusro: The relationship of Amir Khusro, a renowned poet, and Nizamuddin was very special. Nizamuddin was the spiritual master of Khusro. The latter wrote his best poetry when he became the disciple of the former. Amir Khusro was extremely saddened by the death of Nizamuddin Auliya and he too died after six months, on 27 September 1325. That is why Khusro’s Urs is celebrated annually six months after Nizamuddin’s Urs. As per the lunar calendar, it is celebrated on the 16th day after Id-ul-Fitr. It is a three-day Urs. Qawwals (Sufi Singers) gather at the dargah for Mehfil-e-Sama. It is a traditional practice to recite the lines which Khusro had uttered on seeing Nizamuddin’s grave.
