Geographical location: Mindrolling monastery is located in the Tibetan Refugee colony of Clement Town, in the city of Dehradun, in the state of Uttarakhand.

In winter the timings are from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm. The Great Stupa, which is a part of this monastery, is also open for visitors during the same timings. For day time visits to the Great Stupa there is no need for any advance arrangement to be made. However, an overnight or extended stay requires a prior permission from the monastery.

The Daat Kali Temple is located 14 km from Dehradun on the Saharanpur Road and is visited by hundreds of devotees of Goddess Kali throughout the year. Shri Guru Ram Rai Gurudwara, established in the 17th century, by Ram Rai, the eldest son of the seventh Guru of Sikhs, Sri Har Rai, is situated very close to the Dehradun station. It is a fine example of the Indo-Islamic architectural style, complete with domes, minarets, and beautiful paintings. The Laxman Sidh Temple is the cremation site of Saint Swami Laxman Siddh. It is believed that Laxman underwent repentance after killing the demon king Ravana here. A tiny zoological park, Malsi Deer Park, is located only 10 km away from Dehradun. One of the premier academic institutes of India, the Forest Research Institute, is also worth a visit. Spread over an area of 2.5 hectares, with the outer Himalayas in the backdrop, the building is one of the best examples of Greco-Roman and Colonial architecture, with elements such as Mughal towers, formed arches, and Roman columns. The Clock tower, a prominent landmark, is an iconic building (hexagonal architecture) of the city of Dehradun. It was inaugurated in 1953 by Lal Bahadur Shastri. The names of freedom fighters are engraved in gold plaque all over the surface of this tower. There are various other places such as the Sai Darbar temple, Santala Devi Temple, Shahastradhara, Robbers cave, Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, The Kalinga War Memorial, Tiger Falls, which can be visited.
Accommodation: Visitors can stay at the monastery guesthouse, known as Devaloka, by booking in advance. One can book rooms by writing an email to the monastery on mindrolling@gmail.com. It has 20 well-furnished rooms and a commercial area consisting of shops, a coffee shop and a restaurant. The ground floor of this guesthouse has staff quarters. Accommodation is also provided in the rooms in the Mahayana Compound and the recently opened Minling guesthouse. Besides this, there are a lot of private accommodations available near the monastery.
Accessibility route: The Dehradun Railway Station is 9 km while the Jolly Grant Airport is 31 km away from the monastery. Taxis and private vehicles are available from the station and the airport to reach the monastery. One can also take a bus from the Dehradun Inter State Bus Terminals (ISBT) to the Monastery, which is at a distance of 4 km from the terminal.

Philosophy: The Ghum monastery is based on the philosophy of Tibetan Buddhism, which follows the tenets of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. It includes Tantric practices, such as deity yoga and the Six Dharmas of Naropa (Six Yogas of Naropa). Its main purpose is the achievement of Buddhahood (the condition or rank of the “awakened one”) or rainbow body (a level of spiritual realization).
