Deity

The main deity of the temple is Lord Buddha who is worshipped here in the form of Shakyamuni Buddha. The idol of the deity sits in first floor shrine room of the great stupa. The statue is painted in gold colour and bears a serene expression on its face. The walls of the shrine room have murals which have minute details. These depict the principal figures of Buddha’s life. On the right side of there are paintings of the Jataka Stories. On the pillars are the paintings of sixteen great arhats, who are those people who have advanced along the path of Enlightenment, but have not attained full Buddhahood. Also painted are the seven people entrusted with the Buddha’s teachings and the seventeen panditas of Nalanda.
